So on the spur of the moment I decided to switch back to CrossFit yesterday during the day, emailed Jason, showed up at the 5:30pm class, and did the WOD (as you can see by previous post).
I have to say for not having ever really been able to do front squats, I was pretty happy with myself. I started out hella light working with the group of folks who were new to front squats since I figured I wasn’t really going to be able to do them very well. However, while my flexibility and wrists are still and issue… I was able to get the form working and make it up over 200 lbs! I was also apparently going a little too deep in my squats ;-) I feel like my legs could have gone heavier, as I really didn’t struggle until the last set at 205 lbs, but between amount of time/sets I had already done and my wrist I decided to stop there to join in on the post-workout workout.
One of the biggest obstacles I need over come is not focusing on losing weight, but rather improving performance. This was one of the issues the last time around lead to me taking a break. However, after seeing a photo a fitness magazine (which I will scan and post) of a guy doing a one arm pullup off a deadlift handle…. I realized that I want to be able to do stuff like that which is why I decided to come back to CF.
That being said there, there is hope for the weight loss… after the workout some of us where talking and I found out that one of the guys at the gym, Gary, use to be pretty heavy (like 275) before CF. However, I can’t imagine him that way since he is one of the fittest guys at the gym. He said that his diet is basicaly: 2 fists veggies, 1 fist protein, 1/2 complex carbs, and a bit of nuts or other fats. So I’m attempting his zone-isk diet plan for now until I can get some more acturate stuff and will try the full on Zone at some point.
On another note, I felt absolutly great after yesterday’s workout! And actually felt like being productive and stuff in the evening which has not happened with the SGX stuff recently. I ended up going to Costco with Ashley and wouldn’t you know it ran into somebody from CrossFit there.
Ok, that’s all for now… can’t wait until the workout today even though it something I suck at: pull-ups!
