WOD:

  • 4 minutes:
    • 400m run
    • AMRAP Double unders
  • 4 minutes:
    • 400m run
    • AMRAP lunges (45#)
  • 4 minutes:
    • 400m run
    • AMRAP Snatch (135#)
  • 2 minute rest
  • 400m sprint

Results:

  • 12 Double-unders (+ 24 singles)
  • 4 lunges
  • 1 snatch (95#)
  • 2:10

I dropped the weight on the snatch and also subbed single-single-double for the double-unders. The first run wasn’t too bad and I had over 1 min to do the double-unders. However, after the jump rope the runs took a lot longer and I had more like 30s or 15s for the other movements by the time I got back to my station (which was on the far end of the gym from the door).

The sprint actually was not too bad, and Rick even commented on much improved on that compared to the rest of the workout. The 2 minutes rest really helped. However the 400m sprint was more like 3 100m sprints with some jog/walk in between. I just can’t keep up the sprinting intensity that long.

Result: 2 rounds + 63 reps

  • 60 Single Jump Rope (subbed for 30 doubles)
  • 15 Ground to Overhead (G2O), Barbell 75 lb

Its been a while since I’ve been into the gym. The only recent workout I did was the benchmark for the Fuel Challenge. I did manage to find my original score from back in 2011… CrossFit Games Open WOD #1. As expected, I didn’t do anywhere close to my past performance. But for a first WOD back , I think I did alright. At least I made it to the gym.

Week two of the Open…while I’m still doing burpees, they aren’t part of the WOD this week. Instead, it’s everybody’s favorite… the snatch ;-P

Workout 12.2

Proceed through the sequence below completing as many reps as possible in 10 minutes of:

30 Snatch (M 75 / F 45 lbs)
30 Snatch (M 135 / F 75 lbs)
30 Snatch (M 165 / F 100 lbs)
Max Rep Snatch (M 210 / F 120 lbs)

Its been quite a while since I’ve done snatches (looking back at my PRs, my max snatch was 155# back in 2010 when I was working with Billy) and I didn’t get into the gym earlier in the week to practice them either.  But come Sat morning, I took my first trip up to NorCal Crossfit Mountain View’s new location finally to hit the WOD…

Result: 44 reps

Over-all I”m pretty happy. With a max of 155#, I figured I wouldn’t even worry about trying to get to the 165# set and I figured the 135# would be challenging. I took me a little while to comfortable with the movement at that weight, and did miss a few reps. But I did finally get it and managed to make it about 1/2 way thru the set.

One thing I noticed was that neither myself, or anyone else, ever did a full snatch. We were all doing power snatches. And watching so many folks get the bar to their head but failing the rep, makes it very apparent how much more we could do if we just drop under the bar… but that’s easier said than done.
